Frequently asked questions

Is Strangr free?

Yes. Random voice and text chat is completely free with no signup required. The only paid feature is the gender filter (choosing who you're matched with) — ₹149 for 7 days. Everything else, including a free account with friends and call history, costs nothing.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can start talking to strangers immediately with no signup — your browser gets an anonymous identity automatically. Creating a free account is optional and only unlocks extras: a friends list, direct messages, call history, and the option to reconnect with someone you've talked to before.

Is it safe to talk to strangers online on Strangr?

Every call has a one-tap Report and Block. Reporting ends the call immediately and permanently blocks that person from being matched with you again. Audio is peer-to-peer (WebRTC) and never passes through or is stored on our servers. You must be 18 or older to use the site. As with any stranger-chat platform, don't share personal information you wouldn't want a stranger to have.

What happens if someone is rude or inappropriate?

Tap Report during the call. It ends the conversation immediately, logs the report, and blocks that person from ever being matched with you again — permanently, not just for that session.

Can I choose who I talk to?

You can narrow matches by shared interests or by country for free. Choosing a specific gender to match with is a Premium feature (₹149 for 7 days) — your own gender is always free to set and required before any match starts.

Is my conversation recorded or stored?

No. Voice calls connect directly between the two browsers (WebRTC peer-to-peer) — the server only ever relays the small handshake needed to establish that connection, never the audio itself. In-call text chat is relayed live and not saved. Direct messages between friends are stored, but encrypted at rest.

What's the difference between voice and text mode?

Voice mode connects you by live audio and never asks for a webcam. Text-only mode is a pure chat conversation with no microphone access requested at all — pick whichever you're in the mood for before you start.

Is Strangr a good Omegle alternative?

Strangr was built specifically as a modern replacement for what Omegle used to do — random 1:1 matching with strangers — but with working Report/Block, no video requirement, and interest/country matching Omegle never had. See our full Omegle alternative comparison for details.

Do I need a webcam or microphone?

A microphone only, and only if you pick voice mode. Text-only mode needs neither. Strangr doesn't use video at all.
